What to wear in an airport. ✈️ Generally, I am co What to wear in an airport.

✈️ Generally, I am cold in an airport and always dress in pants and have a sweater handy to put on top of another long sleeve layer.

✈️ However, Honolulu Airport is an open air airport which is exposed to the hot weather in some sections when walking from gate to gate.

✈️ Dressing in layers with the option of going down to a tank top or t-shirt is how I dress for every airport.
Beach or Pool Day (or both?) 🚢 Discovery Princess Beach or Pool Day (or both?)

🚢 Discovery Princess is in Honolulu today until 11pm

🚢 Since it was Discovery Princess’ first US port since leaving Alaska in October 2025, a full guest and crew immigration had to be done when the cruise ship first arrived.

🚢 Although I disembarked today, Tony will be onboard until May 9th (Vancouver).

🚢 Since I have a late flight, I booked a DayUse hotel, enjoyed the amazing weather today as well as the beautiful Waikiki Beach.

🚢 Would you rather spend the day by the pool, the beach, or go shopping?
Seafood buffet in Sanctuary on Discovery Princess Seafood buffet in Sanctuary on Discovery Princess while scenic cruising in Glacier Bay, Alaska

🚢 Discovery Princess culinary team did a practice run today of how the seafood buffet will be presented while the ship is doing scenic cruising in Glacier Bay, Alaska this summer.

🚢 Check out the sushi, sashimi, oysters, shrimp, fresh fruit, and hot selections, too.

🚢 The Sanctuary is located on Deck 18 at the front of the ship. It costs $40 to reserve a lounge chair for the day.

🚢 This seafood buffet will be exclusive to those that have booked the Sanctuary for the day.

🚢 I’ve included a video of what the Sanctuary looked like while cruising in Glacier Bay in 2024.
Friendliest cruise ship in the fleet is Discovery Friendliest cruise ship in the fleet is Discovery Princess

🚢 Tomorrow Discovery Princess will be in Honolulu, Hawaii and there are more than 650 guests disembarking (and another 650+ guests will be embarking).

🚢 Today there was a Teammate Farewell Parade held in the Piazza to say goodbye to our disembarking guests.
Spa Girls beat Guest Services Team 🚢 Discovery Pr Spa Girls beat Guest Services Team

🚢 Discovery Princess crew had a Tug of War competition today between departments

🚢 The top two teams in the finals were the “Bridge Boys” consisting of deck officers against the “Technical Team” which were engineers. The Bridge Boys won!

🚢 However, the highlight to watch was the Spa girls (manicured nails and all) beat the Guest Services Team. Well done girls!!

🚢 Such a great event to watch where the crew had so much fun.
Rock Opera on Discovery Princess 🕺💃Great performa Rock Opera on Discovery Princess

🕺💃Great performance last night by the cast and company of Discovery Princess.

💃🕺 Rock Opera was performed earlier this cruise so this was the second time that the cast has performed this production show on Discovery Princess.
Time zone adjustments on a transpacific reposition Time zone adjustments on a transpacific repositioning cruise can be difficult.

🚢 On the repositioning cruise from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, Discovery Princess will put the ship’s clocks forward 7 times (a total of 7 hours) and one day backwards.

🚢 I discussed in a previous reel (April 13th) how the gaining or losing a day works when crossing the International Dateline if you want to read more about that.

🚢 The ship’s clocks are put one hour forward in the middle of the night, so it’s best for you to adjust your phone manually before you go to bed on the evening when it occurs.

🚢 As for the dates the hours forward occurred (or will occur), Discovery Princess adjusted or will adjust the ship’s clocks on these days:
April 8/9
April 9/10
April 14/15
April 16/17
No time changes between Papeete and Honolulu
April 27/28
April 28/29
April 30/May 1

🚢 Travelling from Sydney to Los Angeles you lose an hour of sleep each time the clocks are moved one hour.

🚢 Do you find that setting the clock forward messes with your sleep patterns?
Crossing the Equator Ceremony on Discovery Princes Crossing the Equator Ceremony on Discovery Princess

🚢 Today Discovery Princess crossed the equator on our way from Tahiti to Honolulu.

🚢 As a tradition, there was a crossing the equator ceremony held on the Lido Deck near the pool.

🚢 Pollywogs are sailors that haven’t crossed the equator before and Shellbacks are sailors that have crossed the equator before.

🚢 A number of guests volunteered to dress in Togas and have colourful whipped cream thrown at them as an initiation from Pollywog to Shellback.

🚢 What a mess!!! Thankfully the deck was protected in plastic and the participants were instructed to not jump in the pool until they rinsed off the whipped cream.

🚢 Have you or would you participate in a Crossing the Equator Ceremony?
Behind the scenes of the Forward Mooring Station o Behind the scenes of the Forward Mooring Station on Discovery Princess

🚢 When the cruise ship is docking and undocking this is where the lines are sent from the ship to the pier. (There is also an aft mooring station for the lines at the back of the ship.)

🚢 The Forward Mooring Station is also the place where a team is required when the ship must drop (and retrieve) the anchor.
Parts of a cruise ship, you may not know existed: Parts of a cruise ship, you may not know existed:

🚢 On the forward mooring station of Discovery Princess there is a small window where you can look down and see the bulbous bow, just below the waterline.

🚢 I’ve included a photo of what the bulbous bow looks like when the cruise ship was out of the water during drydock.

🚢 This protruding bulb reduces wave-making resistance by the way the water flows around the hull.

🚢 This bulbous bow reduces drag, and therefore improves fuel efficiency, speed, and provides a smoother cruise experience in rough seas.

Where to sit on a cruise ship water shuttle 🚢 Tod Where to sit on a cruise ship water shuttle

🚢 Today Discovery Princess was in Moorea, French Polynesia which is a tender port.

🚢 This means that the cruise ship is anchored and a water shuttle service is provided to bring guests and crew ashore.

🚢 I prefer to sit on top of the water shuttle because I like to take videos and photos. But, I also love the sun and the breeze.

🚢 Many guests prefer to sit inside the tender because they don’t want to be exposed as much to the sun.

🚢 Where do you prefer to sit on the water shuttle?

➡️ Discovery Princess is in Moorea, French Polynesia today.

➡️ Although it is a tender port (requires water shuttles), the ride is only about 20 minutes.

➡️ Once at the pier there is a large artisan market selling souvenirs such as pearls, fridge magnets, t-shirts, paintings, etc.

➡️ In case you haven’t booked an excursion with the cruise ship, there are shuttles, taxi services, and independent tours available, too.

➡️ Is the French Polynesia on your bucket list?
Croque McDo in Tahiti ➡️ Of course I went to McDo Croque McDo in Tahiti

➡️ Of course I went to McDonalds this morning!

➡️ Discovery Princess was in Papeete, French Polynesia today.

➡️ Although the menu at this Tahiti McDonalds is similar to the United States or Canada, one unusual item stood out to me.

➡️ The Croque McDo is McDonalds version of a Croque Monsieur, a grilled ham and cheese sandwich.

➡️ This McDonalds also offered a full lunch menu even at 9:30am.

➡️ But check out the sign, “Don’t Feed the Chickens”. Yes, wild chickens roamed free around the outdoor seating area.

➡️ This McDonalds is super close to the cruise terminal, too.
